Because
of this, she became known as Umm Al-Qamaqish. Each of the daughters had a hen.
One day, the woman decided to go with her husband to perform the Hajj
pilgrimage. She asked her children to take good care of their little sister and
to ensure that nothing bad happened to her.
The woman and her
husband traveled to Hajj, and the rest of the children were jealous of Umm
al-Qamaqish because their mother loved her more than them, so they all
decided to get rid of her. They took Umm al-Qamaqish's hen and threw it into a
well. In the well, the hen fell by itself. Umm al-Qamaqish pretended to be
upset and asked them to throw her into the well as well, so they did. When she
reached the bottom of the well, she tried to find her hen but couldn't. She
called out to her siblings to help her out of the well, but she found that they
had left her alone and gone away. Umm al-Qamaqish wandered around the bottom of
the well and saw a path that led her to a palace. She entered the palace and
began to explore it. Suddenly, she heard someone approaching, so she hid in a
bathroom closet. The person was the king, the owner of the palace, who entered
the bathroom to relieve himself. The king entered the bathroom, and his needs
were met.
In that moment,
Umm al-Qamaqish came out of the bathroom closet and said to the king:
"Father, father, I am your daughter." He replied, "What are you
saying? How is that possible?" She said to him, "This is the truth of
what happened, and I am not lying." The king was surprised and accepted
the reality, saying to her, "Alright, my dear, come here." The king
took her and raised her until she grew up.
he king believed her and accepted the reality, saying to her,
"Alright, my dear, come here." He took her and raised her until she
grew up.
After months of Umm al-Qamaqish descending into the well, her
mother returned from Hajj and brought gifts for all the children, but she
brought the largest and best gift for Umm al-Qamaqish. The mother asked about
the youngest daughter, and everyone said they did not know, that she had left
the house and had not returned, and they did not know where she had gone. The
mother placed Umm al-Qamaqish's gift aside and asked her children not to touch
the gift or open it, and she searched for her every day.
Umm al-Qamaqish grew up in the king's palace, and the king
married her to his nephew. This young man appeared as a human at night but
turned into a bird during the day, so he would leave the palace and fly around
the countryside. One day, he heard from Umm al-Qamaqish's sisters about her
gift and learned where the gift was, and he understood the whole story. The
bird started returning every day, trying to reach Umm al-Qamaqish's gift,
repeating, "This is Umm al-Qamaqish's gift," and attempting to take
it, but her siblings would chase him away. One time, the mother was present and
heard the bird speaking. She approached and said, "Leave him! Leave him! I
want to hear what he is saying, I want to see."
The bird approached and landed on Umm al-Qamaqish's gift, taking
a beautiful and precious piece from it. The mother watched the bird and saw it
enter the well. She started shouting, "Oh people, oh villagers, there is
something in the well! There is something in the well!" At first, no one
believed her because the well was known to be empty, and it was impossible for
anyone to live there. Eventually, some people went down the well and found the
path to the palace. They walked along it until they reached the palace and
found Umm al-Qamaqish. She told them what had happened to her, and her brothers
and sisters apologized for what they had done. They held a new wedding
celebration and rejoiced for seven nights. Everyone was happy, reconciled, and
lived together.
